Having spent too long of our Christian lives without understanding our identity, authority and purpose, just like the Grand Canyon, there was a huge divide between what the bible said about being over-comers and what we were experiencing in our daily lives!
Linda and I were living a normal everyday life. I was a fireman in Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service and Linda had various jobs (to fit in with shift work in my early days), the latest as a classroom assistant in a primary school.
Our only son, Sam, was doing well at secondary school so on the surface everything seemed fine, but underneath we knew we were created for something different than we were doing which led to dis-satisfaction with the status quo. I enjoyed my job and had a respected position, but deep down I knew I was called to something else. In addition we had some friends die too young for various reasons which led us to the question many have come to at some point – What are we missing?! Frustrated at not seeing many results from our prayers, but knowing inside it should be different, we directed this question to God, and God in His mercy and grace pointed us to some answers.
In 2008 we started to receive new revelation and our focus changed from ‘going to heaven in the sky when you die’ to ‘Learning to thrive while we’re alive!’ After several years of personal study and testimonies of healing and breakthrough, the desire to attend bible college grew stronger. When reading Hebrews 11:6 the verse jumped off the page at me; ‘but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him’. This resulted in me resigning from the fire service 18 months before my early retirement date, we sold our house to fund living in America as we were not entitled to work, and we attended Charis Bible College, Colorado, graduating in May 2015. Sam has been very much part of the same journey and came with us to Bible College rather than taking up his offered place at Durham University.
Chosen Free was birthed out of a desire to disciple people in their true identity and through evangelistic outreaches and mission, introduce people to a Loving Heavenly Father that chose them before the foundation of the world! (Ephesians 1:4).
Who the Son sets free is free indeed, but the problem is many people do not understand what that freedom looks like!
